Alarming Concern: Belgian Government’s Ban on Jewish ritual slaughter might induce Banning Bris Milah
The leaders of the Jewish communities in Belgium submitted an appeal to the Constitutional Court of Law concerning the Ban on Jewish ritual Slaughter, arguing that the law has negative influence on the kosher food industry.

Leaders of the Jewish community in Belgium stated that the new law accepted in Flanders proceeding to Valonia, will definitely have negative influence on the kosher food industry and the availability of kosher meat and poultry. Transferring the location of the factories will disrupt the manufacturing process, thus leading to a shortage, prices rise and harm to the population that meticulously respect their age long tradition.
It is important to note that the leaders of the Belgium Jewish community appealed in parallel to the efforts of Legal sources in Europe that have formulated a position based on international experts on this issue. The call upon International well-known experts was a result of RCE reaction to the requests of Rabbis all over Europe who have expressed the alarming concern due to the destructive ripple effect this Ban will have.
The Chairman of the “Rabbinical Centre of Europe” and the “Union of Jewish Organizations in Europe” Rabbi Menachem Margolin said, “We are administrating a battle striving to prevent harassment of the Jewish lifestyle in Europe.” He stated that The Jewish organizations and RCE will continue to assist the Jewish communities by delivering products from Kosher slaughtering industries where their countries have freedom of religion. “We have led public political legislations in various countries with much success Baruch Hashem. We will continue to do so in Belgium or in any European country that tries to restrict Jews from prospering and leading peaceful lives according to their tradition and heritage. “Rabbi Margolin said.
RCE’s Director-General Rabbi Arie Goldberg, coordinator of appeals to international legal authorities, said that Rabbis have apprehensively expressed the fact that this ban will lead to the Ban of Bris Milah and more. “The indication that Belgium, as a central country in Europe, home of the European Union, Bans Jewish ritual slaughter, can result in disturbing repercussions to the Religious Jewish lifestyle.”
