Budapest, Hungary, will be the venue for the next European Kashrus Conference soon to take place with the participation of Rabbis and international Kashrus experts.

The three-day conference, initiated by the Kashrus Dept. of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe (RCE), will open on 2nd Adar II (March 9th2008), and will cover the complete range of topics concerning the Kashrus of food – from updates on problems that arose recently with certain ingredients, supervision in various European factories, to new ideas suggested to assist the safeguarding of Kashrus.

Rabbi Pinchas Padwa, Dayan od Belzer communityin Zurich andHead of the RCE Kashrus Dept., says that the conference in Hungary will constitute an integral part of a series of gatherings which began last year in Brussels, to discuss current topics on the agenda of the international Kashrus network in general and that of Europe in particular.

“It is only natural that such a conference will bring in its wake discussions and updates, with a creative exchange of ideas between well-known international experts, which will be a great contribution towards the strengthening of Kashrus in Jewish communities”, said Rabbi Padwa at the beginning of the week.

At the preparatory meeting which took place recently in the home of Rabbi Yaakov Dovid Schmahl, Dayan of Shomrei Hadass in Antwerp, andthe RabbinicalCommittee member, headed by Rabbi Padwa, it was decided to designate two days of the conference to sessions on professional and scientific topics, while on the third day the participants will be given the opportunity to visit the grave of the Chasam Sofer in Pressburg and to tour the local Torah institutions. Among those participating in the meeting were Rabbi Yosef Kornick, Head of the Dept. for Contact with Authorities and Special Projects, and Rabbi Yosef Hoffmann, the organiser.

The staff of the RCE Conference Dept. are busy preparing the logistics of the conference, high standard accomodation for the guests, and the arrangement of many technical details which will ensure the success of the conference. The Dept. Manager, Rabbi David Rose, estimates that – similar to previous conferences – this time too there will be active participation of communal Rabbis who show great interest in the subject of Kashrus.

It is noteworthy that the hotel where the conference is scheduled is situated in a rural area on the shores of the River Danube, which will surely enhance the relaxation and rejuvenation of the conference participants. The guests will be welcomed by the local Rabbis, theRabbinical Committeemembers: Rabbi Boruch Oberlander, Rabbi of Chevra Shas and Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Weissberger, Rabbi of Adas Yereim in Budapest.
