Community rabbanim and Torah scholars in Europe were pleased to learn that Israel’s Chief Rabbinate, together with the Rabbinical Centre of Europe, have developed a special program for European residents who wish to be tested officially by Israel’s Chief Rabbinate.
Through this program, rabbanim who want to be certified as “Yoreh-yoreh,” or as community rabbanim in the Diaspora, or to be authorized to be mesader kiddushin and gittin, or as mashgichim for kashrus, as shochtim, as supervisors for treifos, or as heads of a kosher-slaughter division, can now be tested within Europe, so that they will no longer need to travel to Eretz Yisrael for these purposes.
These exams are planned for community rabbanim and for kollel avreichim who would like to be certified. The cost of each exam is just €200.
At this time, we are finalizing the list of names of those who have contacted the RCE’s Harav Avraham Abba Turetsky and signed up to be tested. This list is being compiled at the request of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, in order to ensure that anyone who wishes to be tested will be able to take the exams.
RCE deputy director Harav Aryeh Goldberg added that if enough candidates want to be tested on one particular subject, the RCE will consider arranging for a course on the material that needs to be studied, to be given two days before the exam.
