The island of Cyprus is home to hundreds of Jews, who arrived there from Arab countries or various European countries. There are also dozens of Jews and Israelis in employment there.

Rabbi Raskin arrived in Cyprus about two years ago, as one of the thousands of Chabad Shlichim worldwide, and with true self-sacrifice began to unite and consolidate the local Jewish community. His efforts were crowned with great success, as demonstrated by the dedication ceremony for the very first Shul there in living memory, the celebratory presentation of a new Sefer Torah, the laying of the foundation stone for a new Mikvah to be constructed on the premises – and finally, his inauguration as communal Rov.

This historic event was attended by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yonah Metzger, a representative of Cyprus’s President, the Education Minister, the Mayor, ambassadors, businessmen and many news reporters.
